Magdalene Odundo
b. 1950
Born in Nairobi in 1950, Magdalene Odundo attended school in Kenya and India and trained in Graphic Design. She studied hand-built pottery techniques in Nigeria and Kenya in the 1970s.
Odundo works as a professor of ceramics at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, and was awarded an OBE in 2008. She is known for her hand-built, coiled ceramics, which are represented by an exceptional number of public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Stedelijk Museum voor Hedendaagst Kunst, Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Museum.
