Shinya Yamamura
b. 1960
Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1960, Shinya Yamamura completed his studies in design at the Kanazawa Art Crafts University in 1984 where he is now a Professor. In 1986 he received a degree from the Craft Art Research Department at the same institution, studying with Oba Shogyo and Mukai Takeshi. While his delicate mixed-media pieces are created through a very precise use of traditional lacquer techniques and styles, the materials he uses are of the avant-garde; wooden branches, deer hair, and such metals as iron and brass powder are used and inextricably bound together creating works that are both fascinating and stimulating to the viewer.
