Suzuki Osamu (Kura)
b. 1934
Born in 1934 in Toki, Gifu, Japan, Suzuki Osamu (Kura) learned pottery from his father and studied many of the local ancient kilns in the Mino area of Japan. Suzuki uses a gas-fired kiln and has created a unique version of shino, which is considered a traditional form of shino-yaki. However, his pieces are distinguished by their thicker walls and are made with extended firing durations and a gradual cooling process. These techniques give his work a distinctive sense of modernity and energy.
