Takayuki Sakiyama
b. 1958
Born in 1958 in Shimoda of the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan, Takayuki Sakiyama graduated from Osaka University of Arts in 1981 and established a Hidaka-gama kiln in Izu in 1987.
Sakiyama lives near the sea on the Izu Peninsula where he create his sculptural stoneware vessels. His series, ‘Choto’ - Listening to the Waves - along with their unique sand glazes, are intended to remind you of the ebb and flow of the ocean and its currents. His work is in major collections including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Musée National de Céramique in Sèvres, The Philadelphia Art Museum and the Museum of Art and Design in New York.
