Hiro Ajiki
b. 1948
Hiro Ajiki was born in 1948 in Hirata, within the Shimane Prefecture of Japan.
He specialises in ceramic forms and has had a life-long interest in the tea ceremony. His creations, particularly his chawan, or tea bowls, are spontaneous, refined and often embellished with gold and silver. From a young age, Ajiki has enjoyed traveling the world. His travels are a continuous inspiration to him and his work.
Ajiki has held numerous international exhibitions, including in Mexico, the USA, Germany and India, and his work is regularly exhibited at the Nihon Dento Kogei Ten (Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition). He was also awarded a grand prize, ‘Modern Tea Forms Exhibition’ by the Tanabe Museum of Art in Matsue, Japan.
