This porcelain vessel is glazed with ground basalt (ancient volcanic rock).

The basalt was collected from Murlach (Murlough Bay) in County Antrim, Northern Ireland by the artist.

The colours and sheen in the glaze come from the properties of the particular group of rocks when ground down, and cannot be controlled by the artist.
