Japanese cypress and lacquer, 70 x 50 x 50 cm
(TKK-0001) Extra info
A Japanese cypress and lacquer sculpture crafted from 200-year-old Japanese Hinoki wood, commonly used in the construction of temples and Buddhist sculptures in Japan. The technique, Yosegi-Zukuri, indicates the piece was made from joined blocks of wood. Some sections of the piece are lacquered, and others are brushed with oil. The design is based on a mathematically modelled motif, and is in the same series of work that Kikuchi currently has in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
